Today is Papa's birthday. I'm not sure how old he would be if he were alive...eighty something I think. He passed away while I was on my mission. I was pretty close to him and sometimes I sure do miss him. I wish that he could meet Wes, I know he would really like him. And my kids. One day he will.
Since my birthday is tomorrow, we always joked that we were only a day apart. Every year for as long as I can remember, we would go to Leatherby's to celebrate our birthdays. They have the best ice cream in the whole world! We would always get the same thing, every time. We would get the chicken fingers basket to share and then I would get my caramel sunday and he would get his banana split. He would always tell them to sing happy birthday to me even though we were there for both of us. I always loved it. I have lots of memories of Papa, but this is one of my favorites because it was something special between just the two of us.
Happy birthday!

The Vacuum
So Nathan has this strange thing with the vacuum cleaner. When he was younger, it was like he didn't even know it was there, he would sometimes even fall asleep when I would turn it on. Then he got a little older and he became afraid of it. He would just cry and cry unless I was holding him the whole time I was vacuuming. Now, it is the strangest thing, when I get out the vacuum, he gets soooo excited. It's so hard to vacuum anything because Nathan has to be right there the entire time. He has to be touching the vacuum at all times. He likes to try and push it, he takes all the extra parts off the side and plays with those, and he loves the cord. He will walk, crawl, scoot, anything to be right next to the vacuum at all times...which is a lot of moving for him when I am vacuuming a room and moving all around. I just thing it's so funny. I don't know where this came from. Even though it takes a lot longer to vacuum a room, it sure is entertaining to watch.

Our fun Monday
Monday's are like our Saturday's since Wes' weekend is Sunday Monday so yesterday was a fun, eventful day. We started out the day at the doctors where I had an ultra sound and we found out that we are having a boy. I was secretly hoping for a boy because I think it would be fun to have the two boys since they will be so close together. And from everyone's comments, some said that is the case with their boys, so that made me even more excited. It's always fun to see the ultra sound and to see the baby move around. They said everything looked good and normal and that is always a relief.
Then we came home, put Nathan down for a nap and started making and canning salsa. My parents gave us a bunch of tomatoes, peppers and onions from their garden so we made a giant pot of salsa. It took almost all day. We cooked it for about 3 hours and then processed it and now we have 14 jars of yummy homemade garden salsa.
Canning season is officially starting for me!

While the salsa was cooking for 3 hours, I mentioned that I was craving a dessert (like always) and Wes said he wanted to make a cake. I checked out some books from the library on cake decorating and Wes picked one up and looked through it the other day and decided that it didn't look that hard so while the salsa was cooking, Wes and I (mostly Wes) made a cake and then Wes decorated it like a Watermelon.

He did a pretty good job I think. I had a lot of fun hanging out with my husband in the kitchen all day!

Nathan's first birthday
Nathan turned one year old today! I can't believe that it has already been a year since he was born. It has been such a fun, and life changing year for me. I LOVE being a mom. I am so grateful that I get to stay home with him and watch him grow and learn new things. He has been walking for about a month now and even though everyone says you don't want your kid mobile, I think it's so fun!
For his birthday we had all of my family come up for the day. We had a big BBQ lunch and then had cupcakes and watched Nathan open his presents. He got lots of toys from my family that he just loved. (Last week we celebrated his birthday with Wes' family and his mom gave him lots of clothes (that he really needed) and he got the cutest shoes that squeak when he walks from Aubrie. )
We had a lot of fun celebrating his birthday with everyone today and here are some pictures and videos of the day. Thanks everyone for coming!!
