Race day

I did it! I accomplished my goal that I had set, to run a half marathon. I never thought in my life that I would ever run a race like this so it feels really good to have done it. I'm not sure I want to run one again though :) I think I would really like a 10k or less...
I flew up to Salt Lake on Friday with my kids and when we got there we realized that we flew into winter. We have been in the 80's here in St. George and it was freezing in Salt Lake.
Saturday morning I woke up 5:00am to SNOW! I was not excited about running in this weather but I met up with my sister-in-law and her husband and we headed to Thanksgiving Point anyway. Once I got there and was standing in the large group of runners at the starting line, I got a little more excited and forgot about the cold (of course I had many, many layers on) The first half hour or so it snowed on us, but then it stopped and the sun came out for a little bit. It never got warm but the sunshine was nice.

I felt good for the first 6 miles, then I started to get a little tired. Around mile 8 or 9 we started getting into a lot of hills. Up and down, up and down. My knees started to hurt after all the hills started and then the last 3 miles took me a while because my body was done. But I kept going and I finished! I didn't have to walk as much as I thought but I did walk a little...especially on the hills. I finished in 2 hours and 49 minutes. Ya, I'm not a fast runner but I'm happy with my accomplishment and it feels good to have done it!

Here I am running to the finish line
Almost there....
Yay! I finished :)
Me and Aubrie (she finished 40 minutes before I did) Even though we didn't run the race together, it was fun to set this goal together and do it!

Both my parents, Wes and my boys, and Wes's mom were all there at the finish line. We got a picture of Blake enjoying the cold :)
After all this, we signed up for another race in August. My sister-in-law Aubrie, her husband Andrew, Wes and I signed up for The Holy War Relay on August 27th. I guess I have to keep running!

Great job Amanda! THat is awesome :) I did the Hobble Creek which is in the canyon and mostly down hill. I can't imagine doing lots of hills. I wish I could do the August one with you. IT sort of stinks that I can't run for 6 weeks post partum.
